Move|Copy File(s)|Folder(s) to parent directory

The user has the ability to quickly move up to the parent folder with [CMD]-↑ It would be great to have the ability to "take files or folders with us", when navigating upward. When a file or folder (or several files/folders) is (are) selected, and the user hits [CMD]-[SHIFT]-↑, NC will navigate to t...

Merge directories

Would be great to have a "Merge" command available, if you select two or more directories. This would then merge the contents of all those directories into a new directory that Nimble Commander creates beforehand, whereas the user needs to input the folder name. All duplicate files and duplicate sub...

Re: A few thoughts on performance

I'd leave the payment/license scheme as it is. Open source doesn't necessarily mean free or free-of-charge. :) As for the zip thing, I just found this today, a zip library (ObjC & Swift): https://github.com/ZipArchive/ZipArchive Functionality includes "Append to existing zip files", which probably a...

Re: A few thoughts on performance

The archive thing should be easy to implement. On the command line it's "zip -u" (files) and "zip -ur" (directories), so it seems to be built-in, and I don't why I couldn't be added to NC. 7zip also has this functionality. There are other tools as well, e.g. one to add password protection to an arch...

Re: A few thoughts on performance

Thanks for the info; didn't know about fman and the python framework. I knew that the plugins need to be python, but the app itself, too? Gee, no wonder. Seems to be similar to all these Electron apps that keep popping up everywhere. Cross-platform, but bloated and slooow, so slow. Prefer a lean and...

Re: A few thoughts on performance

I concur, though I'm a bit perplexed about fman; it seems to be such a slim application, which means that it should be fast as well. Fastest I've found so far is Rixstep Xfile – http://rixstep.com/4/0/xfile/ – but it has very rudimentary functionality, so in that regard it's no match for any of the ...

Re: Cut and Paste within same panel

Apple has never implemented Cut&Paste, and honestly they shouldn't. There is no Cut command in Unix/BSD/macOS, there's only Move , i.e. the correct & canonical operation is [CMD-C] (copy) in the source directory, followed by [ALT-CMD-V] (move) in the target directory. I believe the greyed-out Cut co...

Re: Add Comments column to allow for comments per file

or create its own xattr, e.g. com.magnumbytes.Comment To retain Spotlight compatibility, i.e. to be able to mdfind Nimble Commander comments (or tags) outside of NC, they need to have the format com.apple.metadata:<STRING>, e.g. com.apple.metadata:NCcomment or com.apple.metadata:NCtag … but you cou...

Re: Add Comments column to allow for comments per file

In macOS this would (should!) be solved by extended attributes, because xattrs are awesome. There is really no need to create hidden or invisible files. The question is just whether NC should use the standard xattr for Finder Comments or create its own xattr, e.g. com.magnumbytes.Comment. Finder Com...
