Re: Go > Go to Folder... should have autocomplete

I agree. @adamtwar describes Finder's behavior which I also prefer. In this case, NC often needs more keystrokes and is less flexible. Example: Let's say you want to go to some folder in your home starting with "D". In both, Finder and NC, you press Cmd+Shift+G, then type "~/D", then press Tab (in F...

Re: Simple "undo" function

Feels a bit like we're running in circles with this topic. Are we talking about the same thing here? Yes, it's hard, in some cases technically impossible to create a bullet-proof undo function, covering all operations NC is capable of. Mike made that clear from dev point-of-view. But this functional...

Re: A few thoughts on performance

I'll open the NC's source code later this year and will gladly accept any specific suggestions about adding support for archives modification ;) Maybe this news is too important to be left buried in some General Discussion thread? I at least would be pretty interested in what lead to this decision ...

Re: ID3 tag

If NC supported plugins, that would certainly be a great use-case for one. But if NC remains as it is, I personally think it's a too-specific feature for a file manager. Two ideas: Do you know "A better Finder Rename" (http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/)? It's a great tool for renaming ...

Themes preference pane

The "Themes" preference pane looks cluttered and confusing to me. Personally, I wouldn't need the whole Themes thing if NC's UI would - at least by default - look like Finder's. After a fresh installation of NC, I always take a screenshot of Finder and use the Themes preference pane to manually pick...

Re: Background color for selected items [DONE]

Thanks, Mike! I'm sure this setting is not for everybody - that's why I would leave it off by default ("Selected item background" Opacity 0%). But for some like me it's a really nice thing to have. One suggestion: in Finder (and other apps), selected rows have thin white separator lines. selections....

Error overwriting an application bundle [FIXED]

When I try to copy an application bundle (.app) to /Applications over an existing earlier version, here's what happens: - "File already exists" dialog appears - Click on "Overwrite" - "Failed to write a file" dialog appears, Screenshot: nc_overwrite_app.png The application is not in memory. It doesn...

Re: A few thoughts on performance

I concur, though I'm a bit perplexed about fman; it seems to be such a slim application, which means that it should be fast as well. Agreed. Objectively speaking, the only slim thing about fman to me is the functionality. It's 51 MB large (Python framework, not so important nowadays...) but is miss...

A few thoughts on performance

Maybe this is of interest for some of you. Out of curiosity, I made a few simple performance experiments with NC (1.2.2) and some of its competitors, Commander One (1.7.4.2445), Crax (1.10.13), fman (0.6.9) and Marta (0.4.3) on my Mid-2014 MBP i7 with Apple SSD. For basic file operations, I didn't f...
