Re: build 1996 - new UI, part V
You should attach a crash report.

Re: Edit files in archives
Most of the stuff should be easy to do with a script: make a temp directory next to the archive (or in /tmp), unzip a specific file from the archive, calculate checksum, open that file (either in the default app or in an app of the user's choosing), monitor the app by pid (break monitor loop on quit...

Re: Edit files in archives
That's not what I said. What I said was that independent of your file manager, if you have the right editor, you can edit files in archives, and save & update the archive. It goes without saying that any zipped file you want to edit needs to be extracted to a temp location first, whether by the 3rd ...

Re: build 1996 - new UI, part V
Tested it by selectively deleting individual extended attributes, and both Finder Info and Quarantine are not a problem. (Finder Info was a string of zeros anyway.) The resource fork was the problem (proprietary icon for the .sh file), so it seems that Nimble Commander can't handle resource forks. (?)

Re: build 1996 - new UI, part V
Okay, the problem might have been the resource fork (or the Finder info?), because it was a .sh file with a icon. So the format is not the problem.

Re: build 1996 - new UI, part V
Not sure how to reproduce it. It's a shell script (.sh file) with Finder Info, Quarantine and Resource Fork xattr. (Maybe that's the problem?) My wording was a bit misleading. I simply meant that it's a compress action directly on a single file, not on the enclosing folder that contains the file. I....

Re: Edit files in archives
Would be great, but is this even possible? To my knowledge this depends on the software with which you want to edit the file within the archive, e.g. a .config file. With TextEdit I can open a file within a zip archive, but edits are not saved. With BBEdit I cannot open or edit a file within a zip a...

Re: build 1996 - new UI, part V
Another crash, this time when trying to compress a file (shell script text file) without an enclosing folder; the crash happens when I use NC's built-in compress command or the macOS native compress from the contextual menu. I have read-write permissions on the file, so that can't be a problem. Retr...
