build 2371 - Copy / Move Issue [FIXED]

Post by bchuter » Fri Aug 11, 2017 5:19 pm

Hi there

Im on the latest preview build. (Version 1.2.2 (2371))
not sure if this is a new thing or not, as im relatively new to NC.

I just noticed, when copying a file, the popup menu that comes up with "cancel" or "ok" does not have keyboard focus (using arrow keys does nothing, nor does the "tab" key).
This is not a problem as hitting return accepts or hits ok, and hitting "Esc" is like hitting "Cancel"
The problem i found is that when you copy a file that already exists you get another popup menu that offers a few choices.
"Abort" "Append" "Skip" Overwrite"
However i cannot chose any of those with the keyboard ?
Using the directional keys does nothing, using "Tab" does nothing.....
im forced to go for the mouse to make my choice.
If this is a design constraint or not easily fixed....maybe offering subsequent shortcut/hot keys on the button choices will work, allowing to still
use the keyboard then. Eg for Abort[F1] Append[F2] Skip[F3] Overwrite[F4] .......or whatever else hotkeys make better sense

My big thing with Dual Panel File managers is the ability to do everything with the keyboard and not having to reach for the mouse at all.

Aha! Told you im new to MAC :P :P
Many thanks!!

Ok, on a serious note. I think ive stumbled onto something else though
This is now the second time this has happened to me.....Once on my iMac and Now on my MBP
I never close NC, so Mac's go to sleep and wake etc many times.
I just read your instructions above and wanted to test this out and found that i cannot copy anything!!
I changed from my NAS network share to local drive....still cannot copy anything.
i have full navigation capabilities in NC, if i hit F5 the popup comes up, if i hit enter...nothing happens
if i manually select the OK button, nothing happens.......the only way for me to fix this is to fully exit NC and reopen it and then copy works again.

The issue just happened again.
I have full navigation capabilities in NC, however i cannot copy or move anything.
I have to fully close down NC and re-open before i can Copy/Move again.

What i was doing at this time was:
Select all files with "Command-A" then i dragged them all into a program called "FileBot" which is a renaming tool.
All files were renamed.
I then selected all files again "Command-A" and wanted to move them to another location.
At this time, the files would NOT move.
No matter what i do i cannot move or copy anything.
Have to fully close down NC and reopen before i can then Copy/Move again.

@Mike, I wanted to write in build 2371 thread, but since bchuter encountered this, let's discuss here.

I have a similar problem. I haven't been able to devise exact reproducibility scenario, so a grain of salt might be in place.
Behaviour I have encountered is that after selecting a number of folder on AFP share and Moving them, results in only the first folder being created at the destination and files are not moved.

How I managed to get to this point and reproduced at least once:
- left pane connect AFP drive (Synology NAS)
- left pane go to source folder
- right pane "Sync panels"
- right pane go to desired target folder
- left pane "Calculate all folders size"
- left pane select desired folders (according to their calculated size)
- left pane F6 Move - Enter
- right pane first folder created, but nothing moved

I hope this is descriptive enough.

To add on......

Im also using AFP to Synology (DS216+II). (thought id mention as swoop also has Synology)

However at the time i did think, maybe my network share were to blame but once im in that period where i cant move or copy
i tried to move/copy from local drive to local drive and it also did not work (only resumed working after fully quitting NC and starting again)

My AFP share was freshly established (via NC and not Finder), thus no expired connection or etc. on my side when encountering the issue...

Hi Mike

It has just happened again.
It seems to be inline with swoops issue.
I might of been wrong in my earlier statement that when i could not copy, i was also not able to copy from local hdd to local hdd
i just made a point of testing local hdd copies whilst having the copy issue and it worked!!
but trying to copy from my local hdd to NAS share (Synology) it would not copy.
This is on my MBP so its not always at my home so my Volume-1 share drops out often when taking my MBP off my home network etc.
This issue just re-occurred on me when i first tried to use F1 / F2 favourites to get to my NAS download folder. I then used Finder to re-establish
my connecting to my NAS (volume-1) after which I was able to connect to the download folder and see its contents, but i could not copy anything to or from the NAS network path. It has no problems listing the contents of the folders on the NAS but COPY/MOVE does not function.
Only after fully closing NC and re-opening did it correct itself and i was then able to copy/move to NAS again.
common denominator between be and "swoop" is we both use Synology NAS (mine is running latest firmware DSM 6.1.3-15152 Update 1)

Thanks for the detailed information, I confirm the issue.
The source of the problem has been found, but a fix will be available only in a next preview build.
In the meantime, please, fall back to the stable release v1.2.1 - the issue is quite severe.
Sorry for the situation.

Hi Mike,
Took your advice, a couple of days back I was unable to copy files between panes so I had to go back using Finder for that operation.
Everything is back to normal now.
