Some questions

I am evaluating different TC clones and so far I like NC and Marta most. I have a few silly questions though that couldn’t be answered while googling or searching the forum.

1. Is there any way to show the status bar with the operations at the bottom? F5 Copy, F6 Move etc., like almost all TC clones do? I forget the shortcuts all the time :)

2. Is there a way to silent copy/move files to the other panel? I usually don’t need the path dialogue, since the path is already open in the other panel.

3. Is Touchbar support coming? At the moment I have NC show the F-keys, but without the status bar (see 1.) it’s sometimes a hassle. Marta replaces the F-keys with icons, so there is no ambiguity there.

4. Is something like icon view planned? I was really amazed how fast I could preview 16MP images, with Finder it’s not fun. If the same speed could be applied to an icon view, it would be great :)

5. Another vote for the command palette, or jump bar (Marta, fman, jumpfm).

All in all it is a pleasure to work with this software, speedy and well thought out, congratulations to the developer!

Hi babmo, I'll try to answer below:
1. Is there any way to show the status bar with the operations at the bottom? F5 Copy, F6 Move etc., like almost all TC clones do? I forget the shortcuts all the time :)
That is not supported. There's a multitude of problems with such "buttons bar" and, rather than implementing a feature full of shady compromises, I decided not to add it at all.
2. Is there a way to silent copy/move files to the other panel? I usually don’t need the path dialogue, since the path is already open in the other panel.
Well, perhaps cmd+c + tab + cmd+v would help.
But if the question is about a single keystroke to perform an operation - there's no such thing.
3. Is Touchbar support coming? At the moment I have NC show the F-keys, but without the status bar (see 1.) it’s sometimes a hassle. Marta replaces the F-keys with icons, so there is no ambiguity there.
No such plans. I don't have any devices with TouchBar and want to continue keeping away from it.
4. Is something like icon view planned? I was really amazed how fast I could preview 16MP images, with Finder it’s not fun. If the same speed could be applied to an icon view, it would be great :)
That's another thing I personally really want to add in NC. No timeframe though.
5. Another vote for the command palette, or jump bar (Marta, fman, jumpfm).
Some day, yes. NC requires lots of refactoring and cleaning of these Augean stables - that's what I'm currently focusing.

Why not? I'm not trying to be provocative here, it just seems like a useful feature for a speedy commander. Crax Commander, dCommander, Marta offer an option for silent copy/move.

I can't say I love it either, but that's the thing — it would ease the pain. Especially if you don't want to show the F-operations, TB support would reduce the ambiguity here significally.
The Touchbars aren't going anywhere, every day there are more of them in the wild. Missing on potential customers here.

Alright, good to know that you are looking into this and icon view.

it just seems like a useful feature for a speedy commander
I've been living in Commanders since Norton in DOS days and honestly, I don't remember ever thinking "If only I didn't have to press ENTER after F6, life would be much easier" ;)

Yeah, it's a minor feature request, probably very easy to implement, but I just wanted to jump in on the "Why not?" question. I'm already worried that with the amount of revenue NC brings and the complexity that's already in there and with Apple making bigger and bigger changes in the OS, it'll be hard to just maintain what's already there.

Personally, I think it would be good to start thinking about what can be removed from NC to make it easier to maintain in the long run. I.e. what's not crucial but adds too much complexity. Just putting it out there ;)
The Touchbars aren't going anywhere
I'm not so sure about this :) It seems like such a casual consumer oriented thing and yet the new Macbook Airs shipped with real keyboard. Might be because of the cost, which kind of reinforces the point (expensive feature that people don't care about that much). Or maybe I'm just hoping and wishing here, because I hate that thing with passion ;)

Completely agree :)

Also good point. I don't feel NC's missing any major features. A Sublime-Text-style command palette maybe, but that's a different discussion. I'd really like to see the UI getting some polishing up - a good opportunity to clean up menus and preferences.

Thanks for keeping up the good work, Mike.
