Re: Does NC have a future? C++

Well? Then call me relieved to hear that! :) It was just a short exchange, but when he talked about the C++ thing and FS performance, I was just worried, because (like rail4you ) I also think that NC is "much better than many other third party file manager"—at the very least; in fact I tested them a...

Does NC have a future? C++

I heard from another developer that Apple has significantly impeded file system performance of C++ code in High Sierra, and that related APIs will even be removed. Regarding NC, I'm reading on GitHub that "Xcode9 is not supported by the codebase due to the Objective-C++ compatibility issue, which ap...

Re: Open apps from unidentified developer [CLOSED]

You can also script your own "Dequarantine & Open…" command: #!/bin/bash account=$(id -un) label="$account-deQ" for target in "${@}" do target_name=$(basename "$target") prompt="$account wants to dequarantine $target_name." osascript &>/dev/null << EOF do shell script "/usr/bin/xattr -dr com.apple.q...

Re: How to copy file path in the current tab?

In the main dropdown menu "Command" it could be done by pressing ALT, and then you have something like "Copy Folder Name" and "Copy Folder Path". But if it's mainly for automation, you can add two simple Unix commands at the beginning of your automation scripts, e.g. for file in ${@} do parent_path=...

Re: NC overwrite behavior potentially affecting other applications

OK, thank you, then it's back to the old behavior: first delete the old version of an app from /Applications, then move the new one there.

NC overwrite behavior potentially affecting other applications [CLOSED]

This has to do with the way Nimble Commander replaces (overwrites) applications. (Currently only from DMGs, because unzipped applications can't (yet) be used to replace (overwrite) .app bundles in /Applications.) This happened with the new VLC v3.0.0, which I just copied from the DMG into /Applicati...

Re: Empty trash (trashes?)

This is kinda related.

I have a script now that I'm using in Nimble Commander: https://github.com/JayBrown/Silent-Trash

Part of it is that it will move files on external volumes to the .Trashes/<USERID>/ folder.

Re: Nimble Commander - the driver of the everyday workflow

I agree. NC helps a lot, makes everything so much easier. (And, compared to Finder, a lot faster!) The admin mode is important. FTP is awesome. There are probably a lot of little enhancements to do, probably there will be little enhancements to do forever ;) but it's already a powerful software I co...

Re: Strange copy/move & replace behavior (.app bundles)

I just tested it, and it seems to be the case that the move operation is the culprit. NC supports replacing .app bundles when copying, but not when moving. (The "Apply to all" tick box only shows up when copying.) I believe this should be addressed/fixed in an update.

Strange copy/move & replace behavior (.app bundles) [FIXED]

I noticed a strange copy & replace (overwrite) behavior, when dealing with .app bundles. (This might also apply to standard directories with files in them.) When I mount a DMG from a developer with an updated app, I just hit CMD-C, and in /Applications I hit CMD-V. Then Nimble Commander asks me what...
