Re: Command line

This sounds perfectly reasonable for me. Total Commander does something like that, albeit in an even more primite way, and it worked fine for me. If you implement a full blown shell I guess there are a lot of expectations that go together with it, so you might eventually get lost trying to make it w...

Re: Command line

tc_quick_search.png See this screenshot for how Total Commander does it. If you select "(CTRL+)ALT+letters" options, then if you start typing anything it will move the focus immediately into the command line. But if you select "Letters only" it will behave more less like what Files do now, it will ...

Re: Third party tools support

the power of the manager like that, in my view, is the keyboard navigation Hear, hear! :) If it's not accessible quickly through keyboard only, it might as well not exist. Commander is all about power and speed. Keyboard for the win! Thanks God, Mike understands that. That's why he made the new bat...

Re: Huge slowdown in Modern appearance

Kabuto, Mike: I've checked on my OS X 10.10.3, tried the icon and thumbnails mode on a few folders with hundreds of movies of photos and it was as speedy as it gets. I haven't noticed any slowdowns. It looks like something system specific. Maybe another software is getting in the way?

Re: Files naming and branding

Mike, you know, it does rank very surprisingly well for these keywords. And yet... I've been searching for a good commander for Mac for good few years now and yours only came up very recently (and I'm not even sure whether I've found it through Google or some other way). Maybe that's because the sit...

Re: Third party tools support

Ah, so that's one of the "nice to haves". Be careful to not spread yourself to thin here though. Because doing a good file manager AND a good ftp tool can get tricky. Personally I'm fine with using external tool for that (Filezilla & WinScp on Windows and Cyberduck na Mac). Oh, which reminds me! It'...

Re: Third party tools support

I see it pretty much like your current integration of editors, but on steroids :) So: native UI, don't wait for their completion, don't know about VFS and archives (I don't understand the question to be honest, so I'm guess it's not something I'd need), and no need for passing results to Files (sinc...

Files naming and branding

Guys, I've been emailing Mike about this, but I'm wondering what other people think, so please speak up and add your coments :) I've been suggesting that Mike should consider changing the name. It was, presumably, supposed to make it blend with other Apple native apps, but there are three issues rig...

Third party tools support [DONE]

Mike, I think if you've added an easy way to support third party tools it would give Files a huge extra power without much work on your part. I'm thinking about something simple: you pick an app (or just a binary) and then it can get arguments based on what's going on in Files' windows. Examples of ...
