multi selection by selecting single files [CLOSED]
multi selection by selecting single files [CLOSED]
Hi!
I used TotalCommander on Windows years ago. Finally I found the Nimble Commander on osx and I'm very lucky - great software, thank you so far!
My question (sorry if it's a stupid one, I just couldn't find any menu nor Hotkey, nor any forum thread about this):
Classic Commanders in Win used the 'Space' key to select files. Now I want do exactly this: just select certain files without any automation (not all, not none, no mask) in order to e.g. copy them into another folder.
The only way how to select single files I found so far is 'Shift + up/down' but it feels a bit like a workaround. Is there a more direct/elegant way?
regards
Akust

Hi, akust, and welcome to the forum!
Yep, have to admit that some aspects of NC's customization aren't very obvious.
Glad you've managed to tune it to fit for your needs.

Was missing that as well from time to time but never bothered too much, now I know it's there
However I would have never expected that action to be named "Invert Selection...", that's ... strange
I recall other filemanagers to simply name that like "Select ...", under this name I would have found it myself already

Consider this:
Selected -> not Selected
not Selected -> Selected
How would you name this operation - "select" or "invert selection"?

Re: multi selection by selecting single files [CLOSED]
Yes, I expected that you meant it like that
However I think this is not "more" correct than simply naming it "Select...":
- Of course you're right when saying "Select..." is not a 100% correct naming as it could mean Deselect as well, so it's more a toggle select.
- But the "Invert selection" is also not fully correct: Forklift, Crax and probably most others apply "Invert selection" to the whole selection state, not only the one below the cursor. Now when I e.g. have selected 2 files in a folder of 10 files, then Invert Selection would deselect the current 2 files and select the 8 other ones. This is what I expected when I first saw the action "Invert selection..." and therefore never bothered to try it out.
- fully correct would be probably "Toggle selection at cursor and move to next"

Re: multi selection by selecting single files [CLOSED]
Oh, I like the word "Toggle", it fits perfectly!
So, these names might be much more descriptive:
File Panels ▶ Toggle Selection and Move Down
File Panels ▶ Toggle Selection
