I used to be able to press Space to preview a file while filtering, e.g. in a folder with a bunch of files I would type "img" and then Space to preview the images. Now (Build 3532) if I press Space, the filter continues and I get "img " and so zero results. Is there a setting for this? I know there is Cmd-Y, but I liked Space.

There's no such setting at the moment.
You can either change the Preview hotkey to have a modifier (like ctrl+Space) or use modifiers for QuickSearch itself (like alt-).

Can I ask why the behaviour was changed?

Frankly I can't remember the exact reasoning, but most likely the ability to search for files with spaces in their filenames was valued higher than previewing using this key.

I really wish there was a setting for this, or if Space as a Preview shortcut is set, treat it as override. I know you have limited time, but if you could think of something, that would be great. I’ve been using a quite old free version for a while, now I’ve updated to the new paid version and it’s weird to get reaccustomed to workflows.

Perhaps I can add a check box like "Accept spaces" in Preferences->Panels->QuickSearch.
On one hand I don't like such hardwiring, since Preview can be remapped onto anything else, on the other I understand that in 99% cases it'll stay on Space as by default.

Done, I removed the hardcoded special handling of the Space character.
Now instead QuickSearch supports choosing a set of characters to ignore when considering an input, regardless of their positions in a query.
By default this set of characters contains only the Space character.

Wonderful, that looks like what I need! Thank you! It’s not in the build 3653, is it? Because I don’t see the setting.
