It would be great if the search panel would keep the last parameters, e.g. I mostly search for files so I always have to choose files instead of files and folders in the dropdown; also I need to enter size of the files every time.

I agree that such option would be beneficial.
In fact I'm currently working on the UI of the file search to support the new regex search capabilities.

At least keeping saved the last string searched for (or an option for that) would be definitely nice

BTW, for anybody reading this a year later, you can (now?) access the previous search terms through recent searches from the dialog, which I just found doesn't even require a mouse click – just press arrow down and it shows, nice! Takes just two key presses to get to your last search term, which is quite ok. I'd still prefer retaining the last used search term as default, like most text editors do it in search dialogs, but this works pretty well too.
