QuickLook as floating window [DONE]
QuickLook as floating window [DONE]
I would like an option to use QuickLook in NC as a floating window like it is integrated in Finder when pressing Space.
I personally don't like NC's current Quicklook integration because it overwrites the inactive panel and many previews (landscape images etc.) are often small due to the panel shape.
I tried setting up QuickLook as an external tool ("qlmanage -p %p") along with a keyboard shortcut. This works, but causes NC to lose focus when QuickLook launches. It would be useful if NC (like Finder) kept focus so one could use the arrow keys to go through the files in the panel and have a QuickLook of them (just like in NC's current implementation BUT in a floating window that is always perfect in size).
For a frequent QuickLook user like me, it would be a huge improvement to have this behaviour as an option.

Re: QuickLook as floating window
Got it, will do in 1.2.x.

Re: QuickLook as floating window
Idea: automatic add in Quick Look window all files/folder from panel. See how this function done in Marta file manager.

Re: QuickLook as floating window
You can already get this behavior in NC by following the instructions above (set up "qlmanage -p %" as external tool, add shortcut).
The problem with this (and with the implementation in Marta) is that you can't change NC's cursor position while QuickLook window is focused. In Finder's implementation this is possible - so you can quickly go through multiple files just by pressing up/down. I think this is important.
Re: QuickLook as floating window
Yep. I mean, Marta have good implementation, Quick Look receive all files in folder.
It's good for overview folder with Command+Enter in Quick Look or just see files with Left and Right arrows keys.
Additionally I suggest Opt+ mode, when QL goes to fullscreen.

Re: QuickLook as floating window
Ok, just tried it myself.
In Marta, it doesn't matter which/if items are selected. Pressing Space opens QuickLook floating window for the item under cursor. You can then press Left or Right (why not Up/Down?) to navigate through all items (but the cursor doesn't move in panel, irritating). Pressing Cmd+Enter while in QL gives you a thumbnail overview of all items. In Finder, this works only for selections, which makes much more sense IMHO.
To sum it up, if floating QL will be implemented in NC, I'd like it to work like in Finder. I'd like that a lot!

I fully agree. I always knew there is something off with QL (current implementation is "workable"), but couldn't put my finger on it. This would be a huge improvement.sasha wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2017 12:42 pmOk, just tried it myself.

Re: QuickLook as floating window
Some news here.
I've added an option to show Preview as a floating window.
By default it stays the same, i.e. as a panel overlay: Works just like it did before, i.e. including items on VFS.
There's a limitation though - NC feeds QuickLook only with a currently focused item, not with a selection. Will be available in v1.2.3RC.
