MacBooks without functional keys row
MacBooks without functional keys row
Hi guys,
What do you think about this crazy stuff?
File management without F1-F12 will be very-very ugly.

I'm still hoping (against all hope) that it's not true! We'll see tomorrow, I guess But if they do that, things will get much more complicated with external keyboards, etc.

Get ready for external "Fn strips" with internal rechargeable batteries via lightning os USB-C connectors!darek wrote:I'm still hoping (against all hope) that it's not true! We'll see tomorrow, I guess But if they do that, things will get much more complicated with external keyboards, etc.
We might also need some external ESC pad to replace the disappearing ESC key.

Re: MacBooks without functional keys row
Ok, bells and whistles confirmed.
That's a disaster - replacing physical Esc with virtual flat button on touch screen.
And I think they'll continue to ship external keyboards with functional keys row for iMacs, MacMinis and MacPros (and countless devices that are already on user's hands) - that's will only bring extra gap between app's usability on different devices.
Don't know what to think.

Re: MacBooks without functional keys row
I just hate it. Every minute of yesterday's presentation felt disappointing to me and watching the demos was just painful. It looked like they're going backwards on usability. But hey, now you can do this https://twitter.com/booka3oid/status/791713082359816196
But the touch bar is one thing, but all the good ports missing (HDMI, plain USB so you can use friend's USB drive when he comes by, or even SD card so you can get your photos off the camera while on vacations)... That's just beyond explainable.
I don't know. First time ever I just don't want the new Apple stuff. Feels weird. Especially that the new Microsoft stuff looks... cool. The world nowadays is upside down in all areas.

Another great option
Re: MacBooks without functional keys row
It is weird, true. Quite disappointing and I hate them for doing that.
Now, what can be done?
If it is customisable, NC can just draw these buttons - ESC, F1, F2 ...
Going forward there might be new ways how these buttons can be assigned. May be even configurable by the user. Akin to a custom menu in FAR.
But I would prefer if Apple had kept the physical buttons.

Re: MacBooks without functional keys row
The function keys and them displaying by default only in certain apps IS customizable: http://magnumbytes.com/forum/viewtopic. ... =242#p1305
Re: MacBooks without functional keys row
Rumors are that Apple will offer high-end MBPs with and without TouchBar with the next release.
Re: MacBooks without functional keys row
That would be damn wise!
