build 1199 - navigation quick lists
Hi everybody,
Following this topic http://filesmanager.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11, I've done some work on navigation:
http://filesmanager.info/downloads/prev ... (1199).zip.
Similar to approach in muCommander, Files now can show a different navigation menus by these hotkeys:
cmd+1 - Parent Folders
cmd+2 - History
cmd+3 - Favorites
cmd+4 - Volumes
cmd+5 - Connections
What do you think, is such approach usable/efficient?

Re: build 1199 - navigation quick lists
I've just tried and it seems to work well. However, I don't see myself using this. Accessing favorites F1/F2 is perfectly enough for me. As for going up/down the path home and root shortcuts you've added do a great job and it's faster to just use them and arrow keys than to process the content of the cmd+1 or cmd+2 menu. But that's me, I hope they're be useful to someone else.
Re: build 1199 - navigation quick lists
Darek, tnx for trying this new stuff.
I agree that these lists are repeating F1/F2 menus, except the history menu - it wasn't available before.

Re: build 1199 - navigation quick lists
The only shortcut I will probably be using is history.
The rest is easier to access through F1/F2
Two cents.

I think it's just great! Thank you! Though this version seems to ignore my hotkeys from non-beta I customized a lot of them.

My bad, right.achekulaev wrote:I think it's just great! Thank you! Though this version seems to ignore my hotkeys from non-beta I customized a lot of them.
I've started moving configs from UserDefaults to ~/Library/Application Support/Files/Config and there was no hotkeys migration mechanism in that build. This one should be fine: http://filesmanager.info/downloads/prev ... (1204).zip.

Re: build 1199 - navigation quick lists
I like the feature so much that I stopped using F1 F2 and rebound them to "Favorites" and "History".
I also bound Cmd+Alt+Up to "Parent folders" menu. So now Cmd+Up goes to parent. Cmd+Alt+Up is "Which parent to go to". Neat!
Also having two terminals (one under panels and main one) is so great. I can launch process in one and do something in another meanwhile.
I extremely like the direction it is going into.
Couple of notices
1. Is there an easy way for you to append couple of pixels padding here
As it's hard to select text in terminals if I need to select the whole line.
Not a big deal but still annoying
2. Double-click and triple-click in terminals doesn't do what it usually does in Terminal app i.e. double click - select a word, triple click - select a line

Re: build 1199 - navigation quick lists
I'm not so sure about this. This could get quite confusing. Two terminals that look similar, but launch with slightly different shortcuts and function somewhat differently. I think the ideal solution would be to have just one terminal under the panels, but with an option to detach it into a separate terminal window, for those long running processes you've mentioned. But this could be too complex from the tech side. My vote for now would be to focus on just one terminal, the one under the panels, and think about multiple terminals much later. Just my 2c.achekulaev wrote:Also having two terminals (one under panels and main one) is so great. I can launch process in one and do something in another meanwhile.

Re: build 1199 - navigation quick lists
We already have 2 terminals. I see no point of removing functionality

achekulaev,
A very good point for having some gaps for selection, added it to backlog, thanks.
A smart selection in terminal was already there.
